SUPER slimmer Michaela Herdman has reached the finals of a national weight-loss competition — having shed a whopping 8st 3lb in under a year.

The Morpeth worker was one of just 48 women from across the UK to reach the finals of Slimming World’s Woman of the Year.

The 33-year-old, from Leslie Drive, Amble, lost the weight after joining the Amble Slimming World group in August 2010, going from 20st 10.5lb to 12st 7.5lb.

Her stunning transformation and new-found confidence inspired her group to vote her as their representative in the annual competition.

And after winning the regional heat, Ms Herdman secured a place in the national finals, which were held earlier this month.

“It was a great feeling to reach the finals, not just for myself but I was also representing my group. It was a lovely day,” she said.

Ms Herdman, who works as Duty Manager at The Electrical Wizard in New Market, puts her body overhaul down to a combination of exercise and dietary changes.

She said: “Now I’m slimmer, I’m more confident and I’m a lot fitter. I go swimming three or four times a week when before I lost the weight I did no exercise at all.”

She also praised Slimming World for her results.

“It was completely different to anything else I’d tried,” she said.

“I did have to make changes to the way that I cooked and ate, of course, but they were small changes made easy at Slimming World. I loved tucking into delicious healthy meals and watching the pounds fall off.

“If ever my motivation did start to fade, my consultant and the rest of the group were there to remind me how far I’d come. We talked and laughed a lot.”

Unfortunately, Ms Herdman did not reach the final ten of the competition. The winner will be announced next month.

The Amble slimming group meets on Mondays at 6pm in Trinity Methodist Church. To join call 07754 155224.
