There was a big day for a happy couple at Morpeth Town Hall as they became the first same-sex pair in the county to convert their civil partnership into marriage.

Annie and Kate Bromwich-Alexandra, who moved to Northumberland ten years ago, made their declaration of marriage before a registrar. It followed the Government passing the same-sex marriage law earlier this year, which came into effect on Wednesday.

Annie said: “After 26 years together, this is a very momentous day for us and our family.”
