A NEW day centre could open in Morpeth after town councillors raised no objections.
An application has been submitted to open the facility for people with learning disabilities at Ponderosa House in Coopies Lane Industrial Estate.
Members of Morpeth Town Council’s Planning and Transport Committee were concerned that there could be an increase in traffic from the venture, but accepted that day care services have operated in industrial estates elsewhere in the county.
They were also wary of widening the use of the industrial zone, but decided a day centre would not affect the town centre.
Coun David Parker said: “I think this is acceptable. However, I think that we would be proposing that we would oppose any retail trade in the estate because the town centre is the appropriate place for that.”
The application will be determined by Northumberland County Council.
