Housing figures are key

A DISPUTE over housing need figures could be crucial for Stobhill.

Residents have been told that while the housing site proposed by Barratt is outside the settlement boundary for Morpeth, there is a presumption in favour of ‘sustainable development’ as Northumberland has a lack of five-year housing supply.

The developer says there is just enough land to cover 3.5 years and county planners agree there is a shortage.

However, residents pointed out that at a recent planning inquiry an inspector ruled that there is sufficient supply. The decision was challenged and a new inquiry will take place.
