THE unseasonable weather has not dampened the enthusiasm for an annual garden event.

Residents are keeping their hopes alive that summer sun will shine on the Longhirst Open Gardens and Flower Festival weekend in June.

And they are continuing to make plans for the village fund-raising event.

Volunteers gathered at the Barnacre home of Brian and Linda Rudd for a coffee morning to talk over their ideas and preparations.

The event will see 11 gardens open to the public, a Village Life flower festival in St John’s Church, coffee at Barnacre, refreshments in the Village Hall and stalls for arts, crafts and a tombola. Visitors can also enjoy miniature railway rides, plant sales, a raffle and children’s activities.

The festival runs on June 29 and 30. Tickets cost £5 a day or £8 for the weekend, available on 01670 790116 or by email to info@Barnacre.com
