Inner Wheel Club of Morpeth

THE hand-over dinner was held a little later than usual at The Ridley Arms, Stannington.

The incoming President Mrs Vivien Scott was given her chain of office by the Secretary Mrs Barbara Pringle as the outgoing President Mrs June Hudspith was on holiday.

President Vivien welcomed members and guests to this occasion and said the charity for her year of office would be Wansbeck Oasis, a charity which provides care for the relatives of patients nearing the end of their lives. In Wansbeck Hospital there are dedicated facilities which provide privacy and relaxation for relatives, even offering an overnight stay.

After the meal, where much hilarity and chatter was foremost, members had an unexpected treat. Mrs Kathleen Alder, a member of the club, brought the Olympic torch which her husband Mr Jim Alder had carried through Morpeth. We were all delighted to hold it, indeed some members posed with it. The torch is such an elegant artefact and we felt privileged to have this opportunity to see it at close quarters, especially as Mr Jim Alder is an athlete of great stature in our community.

President Vivien then thanked various people for making the evening so pleasurable and wished us all a happy recess until we meet again in September.
