Inquiry as thousands lose power in north cut

RESIDENTS across Ponteland were hit by a power cut last Thursday.

CE Electric is still investigating the high voltage fault, which originated in the Newcastle Airport area, that affected 6,841 customers across four postcodes – including NE20.

The incident took place just after 5am and work immediately began to restore power, with 1,463 properties back on by 5.30am and a further 2,425 by 5.43am.

At 8.30am, there were just 17 households without power and they were soon given generators as a temporary measure.

A CE Electric spokesman said: “We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused by the power cut.

“We made every effort to restore power as quickly as possible.”

Newcastle Airport was also affected, but the back-up generator kicked in immediately and there was no impact on passenger services.
