It’s the season to join growers

Hardy Plant Society

A NEW season is under way at the North East branch of The Hardy Plant Society.

A diverse range of talks will take place, including On Top But Never In Control by BBC4 presenter Timothy Walker, who is Director of the University of Oxford Botanic Garden.

There will also be sessions on early spring perennials and a practical demonstration on how to prune ornamental shrubs.

North East Chairman Heather Russell said: “I am thrilled to have such a variety of appealing subjects and speakers for our group.

“Anyone who is interested in their garden will benefit from hearing one of our talks.

“We also have a plant table at each meeting that is full of good quality and often unusual plants for our members to buy.”

Monthly meetings take place at Stannington Village Hall on Mondays, starting at 7.15pm, with the season running until May. It is followed by summer garden visits to members’ gardens.

People joining now will benefit from membership lasting to December 2013.

To join the local group for £6 per person, people must first join the national organisation for £17.

Discounts apply for members living at the same address.
