A YOUNG mother is gearing up to take the plunge in a daring charity skydive.
Jessica Astley, 23, has vowed to carry out the fund-raiser in aid of Sara’s Hope Foundation, which offers a holiday retreat in Crete for child cancer patients and their families.
The Stobswood resident heard about the charity during a fund-raising event at Burgham Park Golf and Leisure Club, where she works, and immediately offered her support.
“There is no personal reason for doing this really, other than the fact that I have a little boy and I would like to help families and children who are suffering,” she said.
“I had been thinking about doing a skydive for a few weeks when there was a charity golf day at Burgham Park for this particular charity so that made up my mind.”
However, it will be a nervous wait for Miss Astley in the run-up to her challenge on Monday, August 29, as the most extreme sport she has tried to date is horse riding.
“I am looking forward to it, but I’m really nervous. Hopefully, I will be able to raise enough money for it to be worthwhile,” she said.
“It is a bit adventurous so hopefully I’ll get a lot of support. I’ve never done anything like it before — the most adventurous thing I have done is horse riding, which is not that daring.”
Miss Astley hopes to raise at least £1,000 through her efforts and is grateful for the support she has received from family, friends and her colleagues.
“I have had a lot of support, though most people tell me I’m crazy. I just want to raise awareness of the charity and raise a little bit of money to help it.”
