Ponteland couple Jim and Joan Thompson marked their platinum wedding anniversary with a big family party.
Originally from Darlington, Jim was an aircraft fitter based near Christchurch, Dorset, and Joan was working in the wages department of Portsmouth Aviation. Both keen dancers, they met at a local hop and they got married at Christchurch Priory in 1945.
In 1962, the family moved to Ponteland, buying a house on the Wimpey estate at West Farm, after Jim was offered a job maintaining the executive aeroplane of Clarke Chapman at Newcastle Airport.
Those at the celebration event included their three sons, ten of their grandchildren and their great-granddaughter.
