A staff member at a Northumberland bookmaker was threatened at knifepoint by a robber who made off with a quantity of cash last night.

Northumbria Police are appealing for witnesses after the robbery at Chishom Bookmakers in Elliot Street, Blyth, just before 11pm yesterday (Friday, January 30).

The member of staff was not injured but was left shaken by the incident.

Extra officers are in the area to carry out inquiries into the robbery and offer reassurance to the local community.

Police are asking anyone who was in the Elliot Street last night, or has information about the robbery, to contact them.
