EBAC Northern League Division One leaders Morpeth Town travel to Division Two leaders South Shields in the tie of the FA Vase Third Round.

The Highwaymen currently sit two points ahead of Shildon in Division One, and will face an in-form Mariners side who have won 19 games in a row including Vase wins over Bishop Auckland and Consett.

Town have won three games in the competition to this point, having beaten North West Counties League sides Padiham and West Didsbury & Chorlton, as well as Northern League Division Two side Billingham Synthonia.

In the previous round, Morpeth were handed a home-walkover, with 1874 Northwick unable to travel for a mid-week game.

Town will be looking to return to form after a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Guisborough Town last time out, and Nick Gray’s side will face a resurgent South Shields club.

In the summer, Geoff Thompson brought the club back to the Town after a spell playing at Peterlee. On the back of this, and excellent media coverage, South Shields has become one of the most supported clubs in the Northern League, often boasting crowds over 1,000.

On the field the club has signed former Sunderland midfielder Julio Arca as well as Northern League stalwarts such as FA Vase winner Andy Bulford from Dunston UTS and Lewis Teasdale from Jarrow Roofing.

It all makes for a mouthwatering tie, with Town and Shields both occupying top spot in their league tables. There is sure to be a bumper crowd, with a gate expected upwards of 1,200.

Tickets on the day will be £5 for Adults and £3 for Concessions, as two of the FA Vase favourites face-off.
