A NEW community radio station for Northumberland has taken to the airways.
Radio Northumberland is an Internet-based service, broadcasting music, community information and talk shows.
Volunteers have spent six months planning programming and schedules, as well as forging links with the communities of Morpeth, Ashington, Cramlington, Bedlington and Blyth.
The station will cover various music genres, with shows by experienced presenters, as well as running programmes presented by schools, scout groups and other community organisations.
As it grows, there are plans to submit an application for a temporary licence to broadcast on FM.
Station Controller Stewart Allen, who spent 25 years at Radio Tyneside, said: “There has been a tremendous amount of work undertaken in the background by our volunteers and I am delighted to at last be able to tell everyone about our plans.”
