Living the life of the Romany gypsies

South East Northumberland MS Society

THE South East Northumberland MS Society enjoyed an interesting talk by retired minister Mr John McKale on the subject of Romany Gypsies.

Mr McKale has a long association and love for this group of people, indeed many are close friends.

He has also been able to minister them, taking funerals and weddings.

He brought with him five books he has written, many with photographs he has compiled over the years.

He also brought huge blown–up photographs and a beautiful Romany caravan, which he had painted himself, and which contained doll-size crockery, a cooker and even a bird in a cage.

We learnt many of the Romany words and the origin from India of the Romany Gypsies.

Mr McKale brought with him greeting cards and pictures for sale, the proceeds of which he kindly gave back to the society.

Mr J Sandersen, Chairman, thanked him and stated that the next meeting would be a BBQ at New Life Christian Centre, from 6.30pm onwards on August 14.

All are very welcome at the event.
