Appeal for children’s champion

A VOLUNTEER is needed to join the Northumberland Safeguarding Children Board (NSCB) and help build closer ties with the local community.

There is a vacancy for a lay member and the person chosen will attend board meetings and contribute to discussions. They will also be able to challenge decisions.

The board is made up of senior representatives from all organisations in Northumberland who are involved in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

The role of the volunteer will be to help support these bodies and develop closer links with residents and groups so there is a better understanding of the child safety work that is carried out across the county.

Ideally, candidates will live in Northumberland and have close ties with local community organisations. Expenses such as travel costs will be reimbursed if required.

Coun Lesley Rickerby, executive member for children and young people, said: “For those people making New Year resolutions to carry out voluntary work or become more involved in their community, I would appeal to them to put something back into their county and consider this very important, worthwhile role.”

An enhanced CRB disclosure with a Children and Adults’ barred list check will be required. Those who have been employed by any agency represented on the NSCB in the past 12 months may not apply.

For an application pack or to discuss the role further, please contact Saira Park by telephone on 01670 623980 or email Saira.Park@northumberland.gov.uk

The closing date for applications is January 31.
