Become a donor and save a life

RESIDENTS in Ponteland could turn life-savers as a blood donor session is held.

NHS Blood and Transplant will welcome donors at Ponteland Memorial Hall, in Darras Road, tomorrow.

Blood is used in a variety of life-saving procedures in hospitals, as well as in emergencies. It is also given to mothers during or after pregnancy and to premature babies.

Lead Donor Relations manager Donna Batty said: “As one donation can help three adults or seven babies, donors really can make a difference and help to save a life.”

The Ponteland session runs from 1.45pm to 4pm, and from 4.45pm to 7pm.

Donors should be aged between 17 and 65, though there is no upper age limit for people who have donated blood in the last two years, they should weigh more than 50kg (7 stone 12lbs), and should be in general good health.

For further information, or to make an appointment to give blood, call 0300 123 2323, or visit www.blood.co.uk
