A volunteer emergency service has extended its work to Northumberland, thanks to a £5,000 donation.

Northumbria Blood Bikes is made up of a group of advanced motorcyclists who deliver urgent items, blood, fluid samples, patient records and medication free of charge to the NHS at evenings and weekends.

Now Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s Bright Charity has provided funds towards a new motorbike to extend the service to the trust’s hospitals in Northumberland and North Tyneside.

Money that would have been spent on couriers and taxis can now be re-invested in patient care.
