Car park out of use

A TEMPORARY Morpeth car park has been taken out of use.

Northumberland County Council secured a deal to provide the facility at the former Davidson’s of Morpeth site off Goosehill shortly before Christmas.

The car park was to ease the problem of a shortage of long-stay spaces in the town and there were hopes that it could be in use until a new permanent facility opens off Dark Lane later this year.

However, the site is now being used by contractors as they carry out flood-alleviation work.

A council spokeswoman said: “The temporary car park at the former Davidson’s garage site was only for use during the pre-Christmas period and this has now been taken over as a compound for Birse – the main contractor on the flood-alleviation works.”
