A YOUNG master chef from Morpeth has reached the northern final of a national contest thanks to her top culinary skills.

After winning her school heat, Caroline Adams from Chantry Middle School and Technology College reigned supreme at the local stage of Springboard’s FutureChef 2013 competition at Newcastle College.

She impressed the judges with her winning menu of chicken stuffed with haggis, dauphinoise potatoes and finely chopped vegetables followed by white chocolate cheesecake for dessert. They also praised her for working well under pressure and showing great attention to detail.

The 12-year-old said she was ‘very surprised and delighted to have won’, and she will take part in the semi-final at Sheffield Hallam University next month.

The Newminster Middle School and Technology College winner, Ruby King, also competed at the local stage.

Subject Leader for Design and Technology at Chantry and Newminster, Lisa Elliott, said: “This is the first time that the schools have entered this competition and we are very proud that Caroline will be going through to the northern final, especially as the standard on the day was incredibly high.

“She is very keen in food technology lessons and she also does a lot of cooking at home.

“I was one of the judges for the Chantry competition and it was difficult to choose a winner because the dishes from all 10 finalists were very tasty. The pupils loved taking part and said it was like they were involved in a Junior MasterChef contest.”
