Cats suffer in bird attack

TWO cats were poisoned in Northumberland in what is thought to have been an intended attack on birds of prey.

The incidents feature in the RSPB’s latest Birdcrime report, based on data from 2012.

The cats were poisoned by carbofuran, which is a banned substance commonly used to lace baits to kill birds of prey.

The report reveals 208 reports of the shooting and destruction of such birds, as well as more than 70 reports of poisoning.
