HUNDREDS of toys have made for a happier Christmas for children across the North East.
More than 420 items were donated to Northumberland Conservatives’ One More Toy appeal.
The gifts were passed on to the Salvation Army, which distributed them to children across the region on Christmas Day. The toys were given to youngsters of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers, who otherwise would not have had a Christmas present.
Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Berwick Anne-Marie Trevelyan said: “This year we were overwhelmed by the fantastic response. I had hoped to have matched last year’s target, but we have in fact far exceeded it.
“The variety of gifts just shows that families and individuals of all ages had input into the appeal.
“Northumberland Conservatives and I would like to say a huge thank you to all those who have bought one more toy for our campaign.
“Every toy we collected will have made a huge difference to the Christmas experience of the poorest children living in our region.
“I would also like to thank Micro Scooters for the special support we received this year.”
More than 1,000 toys have been collected since the appeal started in 2011.
