PUPILS at a Morpeth school turned the tables for a day as they were given some powers.

As Newminster Middle School and Technology College had signed up to the national Takeover Day event, its Student Voice team took charge.

After completing a condensed initial teacher training (ITT) course, the children successfully planned and delivered lessons.

One of the students who took part, Jonny Fox, said: “It was a great experience and I think that everyone involved in the activities had a fantastic day.

Fellow year seven pupil Josh Burton added: “Takeover Day was good fun and I really enjoyed it. I’d do it again if I had the chance.”

Members of the group were also on duty in the yard during breaks and the cafeteria at lunchtime.

Newminster teacher Andrea Cole said: “The children had such a great time and they impressed both their fellow students and all the staff.”
