Deadline looms for bypass feedback
TIME is running out for residents to have their say on final plans for the Morpeth Northern Bypass.
The deadline for people to put forward their views about the £30million project that will link the A197 at Whorral Bank to the A1 south of Fairmoor is a week tomorrow.
Opinions are sought on a range of subjects such as the options for crossing the bypass at Fulbeck Lane, the proposed access routes for construction vehicles and the plans for screening the road.
The consultation is being held ahead of the county council’s submission of application to the Planning Inspectorate for a Development Consent Order (DCO) this autumn.
Should this be approved, the DCO would grant all the necessary permissions for the proposed bypass, such as planning, compulsory purchase orders and traffic orders.
On Monday, the executive approved an officer recommendation to use compulsory purchase powers as a contingency measure to avoid landowners delaying the sale of the required land, although officials stress that acquisition through negotiation is the preferred option.
Construction work could begin on the bypass in spring 2014, with the road completed in winter 2015.
