Doctors say ‘i’ to new healthcare technology

DOCTORS in Northumberland are using the latest technology to keep up-to-date with the healthcare services on offer across the region.

Believed to be the first of its kind in the NHS, the new iPhone app launched by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is allowing GPs to access real-time information about the trust’s many clinics, consultants and specialist provision.

It includes descriptions of all clinics, times and locations, the area of speciality and direct contact details for consultants, referral information and forms, and the latest news about service changes.

The facility, which has already been downloaded more than 250 times, is helping the trust’s specialist doctors and nurses build even closer working relationships with GPs.

Northumbria Healthcare Director of Operations Ann Wright said: “Working closely with GPs to make care as seamless as possible for our patients is an important priority.

“Our new iPhone app is very simple to use and means GPs can quickly find their way around our services — both in hospital and in the community.

“Providing direct contact details for consultants and their areas of specialty means GPs can quickly agree the best pathway of care for patients and build relationships with hospital colleagues.”

The new GP app, which is called Clinical Information Xchange, can be downloaded to an iPhone or iPad.
