Drivers warned after arrest

MORPETH residents are being urged to keep their cars locked following an arrest in the town.

On Friday, January 27, police received a report of a man acting suspiciously in Townsend Crescent at 2.35am.

Officers attended the scene and did an area search. They checked various vehicles and found that a number of them in Townsend Crescent and neighbouring streets had been left unlocked by the owners, but only one vehicle had items stolen from it.

Later that day, a 23-year-old male was arrested by police. He was then released on bail pending further inquiries.

Morpeth Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Simpson said: “We were surprised and disappointed that so many cars had been left unlocked by their owners, this is just an invitation to thieves.

“I cannot emphasise enough the need for everyone to be aware of their vehicle security.”
