Family treasure trail

A FUN summer trail has been launched to support a Morpeth business group.

Chamber of Trade member April Atkinson of La Bodega Tapas Bar in Newgate Street has organised a ‘walking treasure hunt’ across the town centre.

Families can buy a form for £5 and they then need to follow the clues to find the answers. The route covers shops and attractions on Manchester, Newgate and Bridge Street and Oldgate as well as Carlisle Park.

Prizes donated by local firms and organisations will be awarded each week until the first week of September.

Mrs Atkinson said: “This will be a fun activity for all the family, which will also raise money for the Chamber and awareness of the many different types of businesses in the town centre at the same time.

“A girl I have been working with on this wrote the clues for a test treasure hunt and I discovered there were some things I didn’t know about the shops and buildings in Morpeth, so it will be informative for those taking part as well.”

People can pick up a form at the following places from Monday: the Chantry Tourist Information Centre, Kayola’s Deli (also Sundays), La Bodega, The Sewing Box, Gordon Carr Newsagents (also Sundays) and Stripes.

Gordon Carr Newsagents, Kayola’s Deli and La Bodega are all offering discounts to those who drop off their clue answers with them.

• La Bodega is hosting a Blooming Great Tea Party to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care on Friday between 2pm and 5pm.

There will be live music and those coming along can give some holistic therapies a try. Other refreshments available include cupcakes.

Anyone who would like to put on a taster session for their service can apply to be part of the event. For more information, telephone the tapas bar on 01670 516055.
