Five held on robbery conspiracy
FIVE men accused of trying to rob a Morpeth businessman have appeared in court following a major police operation.
They were arrested after officers stopped a car in the town on Friday and have been charged with conspiring to commit robbery at the home of Alan Johnson, as well as possession of an imitation firearm.
Stephen Clements, 35, of West Victoria Street, Consett, Terry McEwen, 41, of Haggie Avenue, Wallsend, David Perrin, 35, of Rippon Street, Gateshead, David Smith, 23, of Eskdale Drive, Jarrow and Sam Ward, 21, of Ferry Approach, South Shields, appeared before magistrates at Northumberland Law Courts in Bedlington on Monday.
All of the men were remanded in custody, pending their appearance at Newcastle Crown Court on Monday, March 25.
