In celebration of the national Foster Care Fortnight, Northumberland County Council is highlighting the positive impact that foster carers and their families can have on the life of a young person.

Foster Care Fortnight, which runs until May 29, is the UK’s biggest foster care awareness-raising campaign, delivered by leading fostering charity, The Fostering Network. Established for almost 20 years, the campaign showcases the commitment, passion and dedication of foster carers. It also supports fostering services to highlight the need for more foster carers.

Cabinet member for children’s services, Coun Robert Arckless said: “Until they talked to our team, many people who thought about fostering did not think they could do it and did not realise the different options open to them.

“Working directly with the council, people get to choose from a wider range of foster care roles to suit their household. The support and training enables people to open their homes to some of our community’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people.

“We would urge anyone interested to call or visit our website to find out more and to learn how people can make a positive difference to the life of a child.”
