A MORPETH school has been rated among the best in the country for supporting its team.

Collingwood School and Media Arts College has received a rare Gold award in the Investors In People scheme.

The school, which caters for pupils aged four to 16 with learning difficulties and complex needs, had to meet 165 performance indicators to secure the award, but in a rigorous assessment it met 182 indicators, placing it in the top one percent of organisations nationwide.

Assessor Sandra Hannah praised its warm welcome and family ethos, strong commitment to improvement and outstanding consideration of pupils, past and present.

To achieve the award the school underwent a two-day assessment, including staff and governor interviews and scrutiny of documentation, to show how it supports the development of people within the organisation.

Headteacher Richard Jones said: “We are all very proud to have achieved the Investors In People Gold Award. This recognises the hard work of everyone at our school and the strong emphasis we place on the development of all of our staff and governors.”

The school was judged Outstanding by Ofsted in 2010 and has achieved the International Award, Healthy Schools Award and Achievement In Wellbeing Award.
