Have a say in health service

NORTHUMBERLAND residents have been invited to play a key part in a new health service group.

NHS Northumberland Clinical Commissioning Group will be responsible for planning and purchasing NHS services for local patients when it takes over from primary care trusts in April.

Work has been ongoing for months to prepare for the changes and now it is the turn of residents to get involved, with lay governor (designate) positions up for grabs.

The group is seeking applications for two posts — Resource and Performance, and Audit and Conflicts of Interest, though the latter requires experience of financial management and audit.

The two posts offer a remuneration package of £7,500 per annum for three half-day sessions a month.

Governors will be expected to bring a range of expertise to the group, with particular skills in defined areas, as well as the ability to view issues holistically and take a strategic overview.

Chief Clinical Officer and Morpeth GP Dr Alistair Blair said: “This is an exciting opportunity for members of the local community to influence the work of the CCG in the future.

“Lay governors will bring with them a range of expertise and help provide an independent view of the work of NHS Northumberland CCG.”

The closing date for application is noon on Friday, January 25, with interviews on Thursday, February 14.

For an informal discussion about the roles contact Stephanie Edusei-Basra on 0191 217 2779.
