Have your say on policing

COUNTY residents are being urged by Northumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner to put forward their views about a range of important issues.

Vera Baird is encouraging as many people as possible to take part in her Police and Crime survey throughout January.

Questions range from deciding your top five policing priorities to saying what budget areas should have more or less investment. This will help her to produce a Police and Crime plan for the region.

“During my election campaign I said that I wanted as many residents, businesses and charities to help me determine what the priorities for our local police force should be,” said Ms Baird.

“The questionnaire will allow local residents to tell me exactly what they want from their police force, what is going well and what could be improved.

“This is our local police force and it is important that it continues to deliver for every community across Northumbria.”

In addition to the survey, she is continuing her outreach work with local communities. Cuts to police continue to feature high on the agenda, whether discussing youth provision with the Young Police Council or community safety with council chiefs across the area.

She said: “I’m seeing first hand the work that is going on across the force area in tackling issues which are causing problems on our estates.

“The police are working in partnership with many agencies and I want to protect these services – this is what the public are telling me and this is what I am determined will happen.”

The deadline for responding to the questionnaire is January 31. It can be found at www.surveymonkey.com/s/northumbria_pcc
