Improving the quality of care

A NEW project to further improve the quality of care provided to elderly patients in Northumberland has been launched.

An event marked the start of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s initiative, which also showcased the work already taking place that is benefiting patients.

Its current provision enabled the organisation to receive £420,000 from The Health Foundation, an independent national charity working to continuously improve the quality of care in the UK.

The three-and-a-half year scheme – in partnership with Age UK North Tyneside – will focus on improving the recruitment and training of staff, patient environment and patient experience.

Annie Laverty, Director of Patient Experience at the trust, said: “The event was just the start of this exciting project, which gives us additional resources to really make a difference for some of the most vulnerable people in our care.

“The project is a ringing endorsement of the work we’ve been carrying out and the grant will help us build on those strong foundations.

“Over the next three-and-a-half years we will be working with corporate and clinical teams to give them support and training to better understand the complex needs of elderly people.”
