Inspectors find quality care at support service

A CHECK-UP on a Northumberland care service has given it a clean bill of health.

Inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) carried out a routine unannounced inspection at Sea Lodge supported housing service in Cresswell earlier this year.

And they have now reported that it met all of the required quality and health and safety standards.

The Northumberland Supported Living Service facility provides care and support to two adults with severe learning disabilities.

The CQC team inspected care and treatment records, observed how people were being cared for and spoke to staff, managers and relatives of service users.

They found that wherever possible people were able to make decisions about their care, which was safe and appropriate, and staff responded to individual needs.

There were clear procedures for receiving, storing and administering medication, appropriate arrangements were in place to monitor clients’ condition and review medication if necessary, and sufficient staff were on duty at all times.

Staff received good ongoing training and assessment, and a clear complaints procedure was in place, though no complaints had been received about the service.

Northumberland County Council Corporate Director for Adult Services, Housing and Community Health, Daljit Lally, said: “We are pleased about CQC’s findings.

“The key elements of the report will be shared and we will continue to ensure that we implement best practice across all learning disability services. While this is an excellent report, we are never complacent and we will continually strive to improve the care we provide to our service users.”
