Investigating insurance

AN artefacts policy could be drawn up by town councillors to help handle items for display.

Morpeth Town Council is considering the move following questions about insuring items on loan.

Currently the council has insurance for its own assets, which also covers donated artefacts.

But if groups or individuals lend interesting items for display in Morpeth Town Hall it is unclear who is responsible for insuring them.

Members of the Property and Asset Management Committee have requested a report on how the insurance risk is managed and the cost implications, which could lead to a wider policy on the type of items that would be considered suitable for adoption or loan.

Committee Chairman Andrew Tebbutt said: “The Town Hall is the obvious place to display these things. It is the right place and perhaps the town council should be making the appropriate arrangements to do so.”
