A LUCKY Pegswood woman has received a driving delight after taking part in an annual charity raffle.

A total of £45,000 was raised for St Oswald’s Hospice by the raffle, which once again it had plenty of public support.

The Benfield Charitable Trust donated a brand new Kia Picanto as this year’s main raffle prize and the winning ticket belonged to Judith Woodsford, who was presented with her prize by Olympic gold medallist and TV presenter Jonathan Edwards.

Judith said: “I was at Heighley Gate Garden Centre when I saw the St Oswald’s raffle stall and thought I would buy a ticket to support a local charity.

“I never imagined I would win. I was actually out when St Oswald’s called with the news – my husband took the call and they rang back later to tell me the good news.

“I was very, very excited as I had never won anything in my life. Everyone I have told has been so pleased for me and it was a very welcome surprise.”

As well as congratulating the winner, Mr Edwards said he was pleased that the raffle had raised so much money for a charity which provides specialist care for North East adults, young people and children with life-limiting conditions and the Benfield motor group provided an excellent prize through its Charitable Trust.

James Ellam, chief executive at St Oswald’s Hospice said: “We are delighted that Judith has scooped the top prize in our annual raffle and hope she enjoys getting out on the road with her new car.

“We also appreciate the support given by Benfield with this fantastic raffle prize.

“We rely on our many community fund-raising initiatives to help continue the excellent work of St Oswald’s Hospice and I would like to thank everyone who supported us by entering the raffle and donating prizes.”
