Kind-hearted businessman pledges sum to help kids with learning issues

A GENEROUS Ponteland businessman has pledged to raise £85,000 for children with severe learning difficulties.

Rob Armstrong, who is Director of MTrec Recruitment and LA Taxis, has supported Hadrian School in Benwell for many years by supplying computers and helping to raise money for specialist equipment.

And now he hopes to give the pupils a massive funding boost by raffling his company box at St James’ Park for the Newcastle v Liverpool match in April.

The box will accommodate ten people.

And to add to the appeal, Newcastle-Gateshead Hilton Hotel has pledged rooms with dinner the night before the game, while LA Taxis will transport the winner and their friends to the ground.

Mr Armstrong said: “I wanted to do something to help these fantastic kids by improving the facilities and equipment at Hadrian School.

“I’ve pledged to help raise £85,000 by April and I’d urge all Newcastle fans to dig deep and buy as many tickets as they can afford to help this very special school.”

Newcastle United Manager Alan Pardew helped to kick off the fund-raising by presenting a cheque for £5,000 from the club, which has also donated a second box for the match and given permission for a bucket collection at a forthcoming game.

Money raised will go towards the building of a new resource to deliver Rebound Therapy through the use of a trampoline five days a week at the school.

Raffle tickets cost £2 and can be bought from the school on 0191 273 4400, or by email at admin@hadrian.newcastle.sch.uk
