Roles have been dished out to steer work on a proposed North East Combined Authority.

Councils in Northumberland, Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland have formed a North East Leadership Board to work together on the plan.

The group has put together a case for the region to have devolved powers to stimulate economic growth, job creation, skills development and transport links.

It is chaired by Durham member Simon Henig, with Vice Chairman Mick Henry, of Gateshead, and Norma Redfearn, of North Tyneside. Northumberland member Grant Davey will lead on employability and inclusion.
