THE new Headteacher of a Morpeth school is hoping to build on the good work of her predecessor.

Kath Halliday, who has many years of experience, is also looking forward to her new challenge after being appointed to the role at All Saints CofE First School in Lancaster Park.

She has moved from Newbrough CofE First School near Hexham, where she spent six years in her first job as a Headteacher. The position in Morpeth became available when previous Headteacher Pauline Molloy accepted an offer to lead a school in Berwick.

Miss Halliday said: “I felt the time was right for a change and I’m excited about what lies ahead.

“It’s clearly a caring school and I’ve already picked up that the children are keen to learn and their parents are very supportive.

“Although it’s in a larger location than my previous school, the feeling of community is similar to Newbrough and everyone has been warm and welcoming.

“I’m aiming to continue and expand upon the efforts of Mrs Molloy, which resulted in All Saints being classed as a Good school by Ofsted in its report last winter.

“I’m also looking forward to working with staff and parents, the Morpeth partnership of schools, the diocese and the wider community.”

Miss Halliday grew up in Alnwick and attended the Duchess’s High School before studying to become a teacher. She worked in Lancashire before taking up the headteacher post at the Tynedale school.

She added: “There are so many changes taking place in education at the moment so it’s important to keep the best of your school’s traditions while also taking new things on board that will benefit the children.

“I will stress to the pupils that they can contribute to the wider world in a positive way using their gifts, talents and skills.”
