New charity shop seeks volunteers

A NEW charity shop is opening in Morpeth and the search is on for volunteers.

St Oswald’s Hospice will open the shop later this month to help fund its specialist care services for North East adults and children with life-limiting conditions.

It will need 15 volunteers to run the outlet. Helpers can work in all areas, from sorting and pricing donations to serving customers and manning the tills.

Retail Services Manager Andrew Moir said: “It’s a really exciting time to join the St Oswald’s team and help us to become part of the local community.”

l Residents in a Morpeth street chipped in to help the charity by donating money instead of sending Christmas cards.

Jackie Gullon, who lives in Kingswell, came up with the idea and 20 to 30 people from the same street dropped off donations to her and husband Peter over the festive period and throughout January.

She recently sent off the £180 collected to St Oswald’s Hospice.
