Newminster is on the map

A MORPETH school has hit the mark with its Geography teaching, receiving a prestigious accolade.

The Geographical Association's Primary Geography Quality Mark Bronze Award has been achieved by Newminster Middle School — one of 15 to get it across the country.

The certificate recognises schools that 'ensure lively and effective geographical learning'.

Deputy Head Teacher Steven Johnson said: "We are absolutely delighted to receive the award.

"Morpeth is a fantastic area to live in and our field work in the town and other Geography work forms an important part of our curriculum and pupils' development."

The Association praised the school for giving the subject a higher profile, which includes teachers showing greater confidence in developing it within their classrooms and pupils having a good enthusiasm for Geography.
