New features at a school playground are proving a big hit.

A grant of just under £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund – the school and Belsay Estates provided the rest of the funds – in October meant that staff at Belsay First School could start looking into suitable facilities. The equipment includes a see-saw, fireman’s pole with netting, a balance beam and a slide on a grass mound. Headteacher Lilian Harris said there are rubber, concrete and grass play sections to encourage pupils to use their imagination and the pre-school and after-school club are also enjoying the facilities.
