Police hunt burglar

POLICE are appealing for information after an attempted burglary in Stannington.

At about 8.45am on Thursday, January 31, a man knocked on the front door of a house in The Glebe. When no-one answered, he then tried to break in through a rear window but was disturbed by the occupant.

The man ran off through the rear garden and over the nearby football field.

Inquiries are on-going and police are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area that morning to contact them on 101, extension 69191.

l Residents can discuss crime and anti-social behaviour issues with officers when Northumbria Police’s mobile station comes to Pegswood this weekend.

The unit will be in the village between 9am and 8pm on Saturday and from 9am to 7pm on Sunday.
