Police praise revellers

POLICE have praised Morpeth revellers after the New Year celebrations passed without incident.

There were extra officers on patrol to deal with the increase in visitors to the town centre and although the bars were busy, there were no crime or anti-social behaviour issues reported by them.

Morpeth Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Simpson said: “New Year always places extra demands on the police due to those who do not act in the spirit of the celebrations.

“But I am happy to say that the public of Morpeth did themselves proud and celebrated the occasion without putting extra pressure on the police.

“We were able to respond to those in need rather than dealing with alcohol-fuelled incidents that sometimes ruin the celebrations.”
