Road re-opened after repair works
A SECTION of road in Morpeth was re-opened on Saturday afternoon after a burst pipe had caused flooding.
The emergency repairs were required when water came out of the road at Oldgate on Friday afternoon and an area of approximately 20m by 7m had to be closed off to motorists, which meant drivers could not cross the Oldgate Bridge.
Although the water ran off into drains, there were concerns about the integrity of the road surface and a team from Northumbrian Water came along to deal with the situation.
A spokeswoman for the company said: “The water was turned off within an hour of Northumbrian Water receiving a report about a burst water main in Morpeth.
“Repair of the pipe took about two hours and the road was resurfaced before it was re-opened late on Saturday afternoon.”
