School voice aims to be loud and clear

A TEAM from Morpeth’s high school will be aiming to receive an invitation to a national newsroom next week.

Newcastle is hosting one of the Guardian and Zurich Municipal’s ‘The School We’d Like’ competition semi-finals and King Edward VI School will be one of the participants following a successful application.

The Student Voice Team has led the project, which looks at using media resources as effectively as possible in times of crisis, such as flooding when the school becomes a rescue centre.

Those making the presentation to a Dragons Den-style panel will be Year 11 Student Leader Angus Kirk and Year 13 Student Voice Ambassador Simon Pickles, along with two members of school staff.

The regional event is taking place next Thursday, January 31.

Following all the semi-finals, the judges will select up to four finalists from each category to participate in a winners’ day, which will be held at the Guardian offices in London in March.
