Seeking secret of mystery object

I wondered if you could help identify this strange thing that was revealed on the beach at Druridge this week. It must be about 6 foot long. We go to the beach every morning but it is the first time we have seen this particular thing and the sands have been moving a lot lately in the high winds and exposing different sea defences etc. It looks to us rather like an old ship capstan or something similar and it seems to be mainly wood and rope.

I would be really interested if you knew anyone who could give us more info about it.

Thanks
Vicky and Peter Broughton

AN unusual object has been spotted at a Northumberland beach.

Vicky and Peter Broughton came across the 6ft long item at Druridge Bay. It appears to be made of wood and rope.

Mrs Broughton said: “We go to the beach every morning, but it is the first time we have seen this particular thing.

“The sands have been moving a lot lately in the high winds and exposing different sea defences. This looks to us rather like an old ship capstan or something similar.

“I would be really interested if anyone could give us more information about it.”

Anyone who can help should call the Herald on 01670 517171.
