A HOTEL and business venue on the edge of Morpeth has suddenly closed today.

The news about Longhirst Hall came after the tenant management company that runs most of the site, Hotel Lease (Number 3) Ltd, went into liquidation with immediate effect.

It leased properties from owner Felton Property & Investments, which has not gone bust.

The Decoro spa is unaffected as it is a completely separate business.

Northumberland Tourism staff were told to move out of their unit at Longhirst by the end of the day, although its telephone and website services will be unaffected over the weekend whilst it gets up and running at alternative premises.

Its general manager, Jude Leitch, said: “We were told the news by the finance department at Longhirst Hall.

“It’s disappointing to lose a hotel like this and we feel very sorry for the staff who will be losing their jobs.”

The closure does not affect Longhirst Hall Golf Club in any way. It is operated by Dawson and Sanderson travel agents.
