GOOD teamwork added up to a decent placing for a group of Ponteland High School students in the regional stage of a competition.

Four members of the Sixth Form – Andrew Bagnall, Charlotte Burrin, Jack Heslop and Matthew I Ross – took part in the Senior Team Maths Challenge event at Northumbria University.

A total of 25 teams from schools and colleges entered the North East heat of the contest, organised by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust and the Further Maths Support Programme, and the quartet did well in all three rounds to finish joint third.

The rounds included a crossnumber where the teams worked in pairs – one pair had the across clues and the other had the down clues – and a mini relay where students needed information from their fellow team members to completely answer the questions they were given.
