Success on the menu for teen

A MORPETH teenager’s delicious dishes earned him the runner-up award at the regional section of a national contest.

Rioghan Bruce had earlier won the King Edward VI School heat of the FutureChef Competition.

And for the next stage at Newcastle College, he once again cooked a chicken fillet stuffed with apricot, spinach and gruyère, wrapped in pancetta, on a bed of vegetable couscous.

For the regional round he also had to make a dessert and the Year 9 student came up with a ginger sponge with crushed pineapple and chilli.

The judges were impressed with his entries and they awarded him second place out of the seven participants.
