Tax freeze on the table

A FREEZE in council tax is being proposed by Northumberland County Council.

The authority’s Executive is being urged to recommend no increase in charges for the next financial year.

If approved, it will be the third consecutive year without a rise.

The Government has offered funding equivalent to a one per cent increase to any authority which freezes council tax, but officers have warned it could store up financial issues for the future.

The Executive will meet on Monday to consider the report, before making recommendations to go before the full council for approval.
